Inarizushi, a kind of sushi

This inarizushi is something Japanese people are accustomed to eating from childhood, but less often make at home unlike rice balls 🍙.

Lately I tried cooking inarizushi for the first time!

and it turned out to be better than expected, it was easy and good in nutrition.

It’s a less carb, high protein ingredient. 1 piece of aburaage contains 7g of protein and 0.5g of carbs.

If you are able to buy aburaage a deep fried bean curd, please try this one.

This kind of thing made by soybeans.

1. Cut it into half and place into a pan. 5ea / per pack x 2 = 10pcs, cut into half = 20pcs of inari bags.

2. Take out oil by boiling them in enough boiled water for a few minutes.

Throw the water away.

Wring them as much as possible by using a spatula.

I might use a basket, or wring by a spatula.. would be appreciated less washing.

3. Place all into a pan. Pour 0.5 cup of water, 0.5 cup of soy sauce, 0.7 cup of sake, 5 tablespoons of sugar and a bit of salt. In a middle heat, wait until sauce is soaked evenly.

If sauce amounts less then add each of above. It’d be better make them mild flavor as aburaage original got a unique taste in it.

Boil aburaage
Enough boiling makes aburaage open its mouth.

4. Then sumeshi (酢飯) = vinegared rice. 650g I prepared, and 16 bags are filled. So 700g of rice would be ideal.

0.5 cup of vinegar, a bit of salt and 2 to 3 teaspoons of sugar.

Sprinkle on warm rice, 2 to 3 separate times. Mix it like “slicing with spatula.

Sprinkle sweetened vinegar to make shimeshi.

5. Put rice into aburaage bags.

I used a china spoon, the amount of one scoop is just right.

16 – 1(eaten) = 15 inarizushi

And leftover age. Which is actually quite useful. I could make inarizushi as I like later.

4 pcs of inari bag

What’s nice about inarizushi, it’s delicious even keep it in fridge.

Onigiri 🍙 on the other hand, not okay to keep in fridge long time. Rice becomes hard and not good taste.

We had 8pcs for lunch, and would have in the evening too.

Stay safe and have a wonderful day!
